The Department of Environmental Control Operations Division is
responsible for the maintenance and operation of over 270 miles of
sanitary sewer lines, 3,000 sewer manholes and 19 pump stations
throughout the Town.
Typically, the Town owns and is
responsible for the maintenance of sewer mains and manholes within the
roadway, as well as the portion of the lateral sewer connection
extending from the sewer main in the street to the edge of the road
right-of-way. The remaining portion of the sewer house connection from
the right-of-way to the house is privately owned, and maintenance is the
responsibility of the homeowner.
If you would like to report a
sewer emergency involving the Town’s sewer system, including a sewage
back-up into your home, an overflowing sanitary sewer manhole, or a
strong sewer odor, please contact the Department of Environmental
Control at 639-2111 during normal business hours. During non-working
hours, please contact the Clarkstown Police Department at 639-5800 and a
crew will be dispatched to investigate your complaint.
