Clarkstown Urges Residents to prepare for Hurricane Irene
With the
anticipation of Hurricane Irene this weekend, the Town of Clarkstown is urging
residents to begin preparing by planning ahead and taking precautions. Residents should stock-up on supplies and be
sure their plans are in order for their homes and businesses:

Check all emergency supplies
and equipment
·
Keep a portable radio and
flashlight on hand with fresh batteries
·
Clear your yard of all loose
objects
·
Store sufficient drinking water
for each family member. A gallon a day
for each individual in your household is recommended
·
Shutter, board or tape all
windows
·
Store important documents in
waterproof containers
·
If ordered to evacuate COMPLY
IMMEDIATELY!
·
Plan your evacuation route
ahead of time. Make arrangements now by
identifying a friend or family member located away from non-threatened areas

The Town of
Clarkstown has been preparing for this weekend’s storm with special attention
to known flooding areas. Town workers
have been checking the conditions of culverts and catch basins throughout the
Town.
On Saturday,
August 27, 2011 the Town will open two reception areas starting at 7pm.
Residents in
need of shelter can go to:
Street Community
Center Congers
Community Center
31 Zukor Road,
New City 6
Gilchrest Road, Congers
In addition,
Nyack High School, located at 360 Christian Herald Road, Upper Nyack will be
open at 7pm for residents in need of shelter.
Avoid traveling
in areas of the Town that are subject to flooding.
