Town of Clarkstown Co-Sponsors Swim Across America Event

Sunday, August 14^th, 6:30-9:30 AM, Germonds Pool, West Nyack

Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gromack announces the Town of Clarkstown will co-sponsor a Swim Across America event at Germonds Pool, Germonds Road, West Nyack on Sunday, August 14, 2011 from 6:30-9:30 AM.  The first-ever 1/2 mile or 1 mile pool swim will benefit United Hospice of Rockland.  Check-in starts at 6:30 AM and swimmers are registered on a first come, first served basis.

Swimmers may swim 1 mile, 1/2 mile, or form relay teams.  Teams of friends and family may participate as a group.  Each swimmer receives a T-shirt and a towel.  Shower and changing facilities are provided at Germonds Pool and light refreshments will be available.  In addition, Hall of Famer Skip Storch will be swimming and signing autographs. Swim Across America, Inc., (SAA) is dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, prevention and treatment through swimming- related events. With the help of hundreds of volunteers nationwide and past and current Olympians, SAA is helping find a cure for cancer through athleticism, community outreach and direct service.  Swim Across America began as a grassroots organization with events developing organically.  Now, those events raise hundreds of thousands of dollars - and money raised is still given to local beneficiaries.
