Town Invites Residents to Meeting to
Learn About Tappan Zee Bridge/I-287 Corridor Project
(New City, NY)
– Town Supervisor Alex Gromack and the Town Board are
hosting the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) at its
Workshop meeting on February 1, 2011 at 7:30PM in Room 301 to give a complete
overview of the Tappan Zee Bridge/I-287 Corridor Project to residents.
“Our residents need to know how
the Tappan ZeeBridge/ I-287 Corridor Project is going to affect our Town,” said Supervisor Alex Gromack.“The fabric
of our community cannot be compromised for the sake of a new bridge. This Town Board workshop will lay out for
residents the state’s current plans, the effects the plans have on our
neighborhoods, and what our neighbors can do to provide their own input in the
process.”
In early 2010, Supervisor Gromack and the Town Board created the Tappan Zee
Bridge/I-287 Corridor Project Task Force to discuss the work being done by the
NYSDOT and to ensure that Clarkstown is not adversely affected by the
project.
The NYSDOT plans to not only
build a new bridge, but also construct two multimodal stations in Clarkstown to
accommodate the NYSDOT and the NYS Thruway Authority’s Commuter Rail Transit
and Bus Rapid Transit projects.Additionally, preliminary plans show changes in exit ramp configurations
in the Town, including changes to Exit 11 near Mountainview Avenue
and Exit 13 in Nanuet.
"It is our principal
responsibility as elected officials in the Town of Clarkstown to protect the interest of our
neighborhoods and the future of our community,” said Supervisor Gromack."We
are hosting this meeting to give all residents the chance to hear about the
project plans and give their input on how it will affect our community."
