Town Announces Road Closing in Congers Due to Drainage
Project
A Portion of Gilchrest Road
Closed Monday, January 3 to mid-April
(New City,
NY) - The Town of Clarkstown announces that Gilchrest Road in Congers between Stark Lane and the CongersLakeMemorial Park
complex will be closed due to a drainage project starting Monday, January 3to mid-April.
During that time, the Town of Clarkstown
will undertake a comprehensive drain pipe replacement project on the road which
was required by the State of New York.
In 1995, the New York State Corps of Engineers directed the
Town of Clarkstown to rebuild the dam on CongersLake. The agency also determined that in addition to the dam, the earthen
spillway adjacent to the dam had deteriorated so much that it too needed to be
replaced.Finally, the agency required
the sewer line that runs along CongersLake must be moved into
the street and additional catch basins are being added. For all of this to be
accomplished, Gilchrest Road
will be closed from Stark Lane
to just west of the entrance of CongersLakeMemorial
Park entrance.
“We appreciate the patience of our residents while we work
on this important project,” said Supervisor Alex Gromack.
Detours signs are in place and emergency personnel will be able
to gain access to the area. The Town
will have staff and a project manager in the field to answer any questions
residents may have.
