Town to Install Traffic Signal at Heritage Drive and North Main Street in New City

New City, NY - Supervisor Alex Gromack, Councilman Frank Borelli, and the Town Board announced today the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of Heritage Drive and North Main Street in New City by the Spring of 2011.  

The residents of the New City Condo complex asked the Town Board to explore the possibility of erecting a traffic signal at this intersection many months ago.  The Town of Clarkstown retained an engineering firm which conducted a study of the intersection.  Once the study was complete, the Town commenced the design of the traffic signal, which is also complete.  

“The Town Board and I understand the exiting problems the residents of the New City condos experience at this intersection,” said Supervisor Gromack.  “I am pleased we collaborated with the residents to come to a conclusion that will make the intersection safer.” 

The Town will bid the project and expect to award the bid by February 2011 with the installation of the traffic signal early in the spring season. 

Councilman Frank Borelli who lives in New City and who urged his colleagues on the Town Board to act said, “I am happy the Town is able to fix a problem our neighbors in the New City Condos have suffered with for years; the safety issues at this intersection needed to be addressed.”
