Town of Clarkstown Participates in

“Shine the Light on Domestic Violence”

(New City, NY) – Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gromack and the Town Board announced that the Town of Clarkstown is participating in “Shine the Light on Domestic Violence,” a statewide effort started by the NYS Office of Prevention of Domestic Violence.  The Town is cooperating in this effort with the Rockland Family Shelter as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which is ongoing.

Two years ago, NYSOPDV began an effort to shine the light on domestic violence and light the state purple.  Purple is a symbol of courage, survival, honor and has come to symbolize the fight against domestic violence.

“The Town of Clarkstown is proud to participate in this important statewide initiative,” said Supervisor Alex Gromack.  “Victims of domestic violence are one of our most vulnerable populations in New York State.  Any awareness that we can bring to the issue may help to save a child or adult from becoming a victim.”

The Town will be participating in the effort by:

  • lighting Town Hall and the administrative offices at Zukor Park purple
  • asking employees of the Town to participate in Wear Purple Day
  • providing literature and information about domestic violence and helplines at Town offices.
