Clarkstown Completes New City Construction In Time For Holiday Season

New City, NY – Under the leadership of Supervisor Alex Gromack and the Town Board, Clarkstown ended New City Revitalization Project construction for winter in time for the holiday season.  In its efforts to accommodate local businesses during the holiday shopping season, the Town ended construction on November 23, 2009.   

Since the project commenced in early September, Supervisor Gromack and the Town Board took several important measures to mitigate the impact of construction including: constructing two crosswalks for pedestrians; offering alternative parking sites on Maple Avenue along the street, at Town Hall, at Clarkstown Police headquarters, and at the Rockland County Courthouse after 5:30pm and on weekends; and planning detours that minimize the impact of the flow of traffic on Main Street to ensure it was not directed to Route 304 in efforts to keep people in the hamlet of New City.

The Town also worked with business owners and residents, over the last two months, providing timely updates through meetings, emails, e-newsletters, automated calls, mailings, and the town website. 

“We will continue to be supportive of the merchants throughout the remainder of this project and try to remain as least disruptive as possible for our residents and businesses,” said Supervisor Alex Gromack.  “We thank the residents of Clarkstown for their continued support and patience during this project.”
