Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gromack
Delivers 2009 ‘State of the Town’
Highlights Town’s Successes, Despite
County and State’s Economic Woes
Clarkstown
Supervisor Alex Gromack will deliver his ‘State of the Town’ address tonight, 8PM,
at Town Hall. This year’s address lays
out the Supervisor’s leadership vision intended to guide the Town through these
tough economic times, while highlighting the Town’s accomplishments in 2008.
“As bad as
things are at the national, state and county levels we have strengths here in
Clarkstown,” Supervisor Gromack notes, “We are not looking at any budget
deficit, our money management is sound and this year we once again have a
balanced budget.”
As part of his
plan, Clarkstown will continue its strong commitment to partnerships, both
public and private, allowing the Town to continue to provide the best services
and resources available for our residents.
He will also emphasize his efforts to secure additional federal, state
and county funds, including increasing Clarkstown’s
share of the sales tax revenue generated by the Palisades Mall, to mitigate the
property tax burden on Clarkstown residents.
One of Clarkstown’s significant accomplishments last year was
selling the town transfer station to the Rockland County Solid Waste Management
Authority for $15 million dollars. The
Town also established a host community fee from the sale that will produce
revenue for the town each year, furthering the Supervisors’ commitment to
stabilizing taxes for Clarkstown residents.
In 2008, the
Town also continued its work on a new Comprehensive Plan, which will be the
Town’s road map for the next five years.
Supervisor Gromack will also highlight the successful revitalization of
the Town’s downtown hamlet centers and will note that once again, Clarkstown
was rated as one of the safest communities in the nation and also one of the
‘100 Best Places to Live’.
Also at the
reorganization meeting, newly elected Town Justice Rolf Thorsen
will take his Oath of Office. The
Clarkstown High School North and South Concert Choir will perform throughout
the program and the Clarkstown Police Honor Guard will conduct a presentation
of colors.
