The following are tips from the Rockland County Office of
Fire and Emergency Services on staying cool during any heat warning:
·
Slow down.
Strenuous activities should be reduced or eliminated.
·
Dress for summer.
·
Put less fuel on your inner fires. Foods (like Proteins) that increase metabolic
heat production also increase water loss.
·
Drink plenty of water or other non-alcohol
fluids.
·
Do not take salt tablets unless specified by a
physician. Persons on salt restrictive should consult a physician before
increasing their salt intake.
·
Spend more time in air-conditioned places.
·
Do not get too much sun.
·
Do not drink alcoholic beverages.
Availability of
the cooling centers may be extended if the need arises. For more information please call the
Supervisor’s office at 845-639-2050.
