Clarkstown’s Lake Nanuet Complex Wins State Outstanding Facility Award

Clarkstown’s Lake Nanuet Complex

Wins State Outstanding Facility Award

Supervisor Gromack is proud to announce that the Lake Nanuet Pool Complex has received the New York State Recreation and Parks Society (NYSRPS) Outstanding Facility Award.

Each year the NYSRPS presents a series of awards that have become a coveted honor for the people and organizations singled out for their contributions to parks and recreation.  These awards are presented at the NYSRPS Annual Awards Luncheon, held each year during the Annual Conference and Business Expo.

The Outstanding Facility Award goes to a governmental agency or organization that has shown outstanding and unique achievement in parks and recreation facility design and development.

Supervisor Gromack said, "We are so honored that Lake Nanuet has been recognized by a State agency for its design and development.  I applaud the hard work and dedication of the Parks and Recreation Commission to see this project through.  We are proud to have such a beautiful, new pool facility for Clarkstown residents to enjoy.  "

Lake Nanuet has zero depth entry to 6.6 feet at its deepest point.  The total surface area of the pool is 49,700 square feet and the total volume 1,600,000 gallons.  The following improvements were added at the pool during a major renovation that took place during the 2005-2006 off season:

  • Raising the pool elevation three feet to eliminate flooding problems
  • New filter building
  • New refreshment building
  • Water features in the pool
  • Concrete decking around the pool
  • Landscaping
  • New ticket booth
  • Addition added to lifeguard building
  • New toddler frog slide

Since it’s re-opening in July 2006 attendance at Lake Nanuet increased from 10,000 in the 2005 season to about 30,000 for the 2006 season.  Supervisor Gromack said, "It's great to know that the renovation of Lake Nanuet was not only successful from a construction point of view but from the public usage point of view. The fact that more and more families are using the Lake means that the Town is continuing its commitment to provide quality recreational activities for our residents.”

Noting that the Town recently reduced its fees for all three Town Pools, Gromack added, We will continue to work to identify and meet the recreational needs of our residents in a way that is both meaningful and affordable. Our goal is to continue to respond to the changing recreational needs of all Clarkstown residents.”
