Here, in the Clarkstown Town Clerk’s Office, we continue to provide the licenses needed for both fishing and hunting. These licenses are good throughout New York State.  However, prior to obtaining a hunting license, first-time hunters are required to take a Basic Hunter Safety Class.  The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) mandates that a minimum of ten hours of education be completed in order to apply for a hunting license.

Stan Pascoo, President of the Sportsman’s Federation of Rockland County and an instructor for the DEC, will be holding the Basic Hunter Safety Class in Town Hall at 10 Maple Avenue, New City, from 7:00P.M. - 11:00P.M., on the following datesApril 4th, 6th and 7th 2011 in the auditorium. Attendance is mandatory at all three classes. Upon completion of the 10 hours, Mr. Pascoo will distribute a Hunter’s Certification, which is accepted in all fifty states.  Once a first-time hunter has completed their 10 hour course and received their certificate stating so, they are eligible to come to the Clarkstown Town Clerk’s Office to apply for their hunting license.

If you have any questions specific to the classes, you may contact Stan Pascoo at (845) 494-6312.  A list of additional class locations and dates are also available on the DEC’s web site, www.dec.state.ny.us.  If you require any other information, please contact Justin Sweet at (845) 639-2010.
