Police Beat TIPS Line Links FAQ Employment

The Clarkstown Police Department\'s Child Passenger Safety Team runs a monthly fitting station where child seats are checked and parents/caregivers are instructed in proper installation and use. Based on our experience, we have found that 90-95% of all child seats are misused to one degree or another. The fitting station is run by appointment only. To set up an appointment to have your child seat checked, call 845-639-5930 or e-mail: b_gorsky@town.clarkstown.ny.us

When calling or e-mailing, please include your name, phone number where we can reach you and the number of child seats and/or booster seats you would like checked. Someone will contact you about a week prior to the scheduled date to set up an appointment. Due to staffing issues, child seats are not checked on a daily basis and neither is the voicemail.

American Academy of Pediatrics Child Seat Recommendations
Despite the existence of laws in all 50 states requiring the use of car safety seats or child restraint devices for young children, more children are still killed as passengers in car crashes than from any other type of injury. Pediatricians and other health care professionals need to provide up-to-date, appropriate information for parents regarding car safety seat choices and proper use. Although the American Academy of Pediatrics is not a testing or standard-setting organization, this policy statement discusses the Academy’s current recommendations based on the peer-reviewed literature available at the time of publication and sets forth some of the factors that parents should consider before selecting and using a car safety seat.
Child Passenger Safety Page
This site was developed by Partners for Child Passenger Safety, a research partnership of The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and State Farm®, to help parents and caregivers learn more about child safety seats, booster seats and seatbelts. Since 1997, doctors and scientists at Children’s Hospital and the University of Pennsylvania have studied more than 300,000 motor vehicle crashes to learn more about child safety. The information on this site, and in our videos, follows current safety recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
